Pet Microchipping

What is Microchipping?

A pet recovery tool designed to help Veterinarians and Animal Shelters to identify your pet.

Microchipping is a quick and safe procedure in which a small identification chip is placed just under your pet’s skin. The chip contains a unique ID number that can be read using a specialised scanner.

In the event a lost pet is found and brought to a vet clinic or shelter, the number is used to access the owner’s contact information in a secure database.

QR Coded Smart ID Tags + Microchipping

Multi Level Pet Security

Equipping your pet with a Smart ID Tag adds immediate accessibility to their identification. A QR tag allows anyone with a smartphone to scan the code and contact you immediately. The person who finds your pet can reach you on the spot, without arranging transportation or visiting a veterinary clinic for identification.

In situations where access to facilities is limited, a QR tag makes reconnecting simple, fast, and convenient. Used alongside a microchip, it creates a more complete and responsive identification system for your pet.

What is the law around microchipping in Jamaica?

Microchipping is only legally required for animals traveling internationally from Jamaica. For pets remaining in the country, there is no legal obligation to microchip, however many pet owners choose to do so as part of a well rounded pet loss prevention plan.

Does microchipping hurt?

A microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice and is implanted with a quick injection. Most pets experience only a brief pinch, similar to a routine vaccination.

Is microchipping expensive?

The cost of microchipping can vary depending on your location and service provider. For exact pricing information, contact a licensed veterinarian in your area.

Are our microchips recognised worldwide?

Yes, Manufactured in Europe to ensure the highest quality product

• Pre-packed and sterile microchips with barcode labelling to support ease of registration
Parylene coated to stabilise the microchip after implantation

ISO 11784 and 11785 compliant are international standards that regulate the radio-frequency identification (RFID) of animals, which is usually accomplished by implanting, introducing or attaching a transponder containing a microchip to an animal.

How long does my pet's microchip last?

Microchips are designed to last for the life of your pet. Small positional changes may occur, but this does not affect the chip’s ability to be scanned.

How do I register my pet's microchip?

You may need to record your pets microchip on an internationally recognised microchip database such as findpet.com  especially if you intend to take your pet out of Jamaica to the USA, Canada or Australia, for example.  Traveling to the UK?  You can register your pet here Peddymark | Login

More information will be added when Wags to Riches Grooming Salon is operational in Negril as microchipping will be just one of the services on offer.  For those living outside of Negril, please contact your local veterinarian clinic.
